Hatch Hubs is run by the Facework Group, a Community Interest Company that supports people

to face the changing world of work.

Facework was launched back in 2016 by Stephen Carrick-Davies. Having worked for a number of organisations and charities, Stephen was working with young adults excluded from mainstream schools, helping them to think about the transition from education to employment and the kind of skills they needed to be equipped with to start facing the world of work.

Stephen then took this training model over to India, where he grew up, and developed it for an Indian market by co-designing it with students. The team developed employability training programmes and a range of resources with the aim of tackling the unemployment crisis in India and the cultural barriers to entering creative and other 'alternative' industries.

In late 2019 the opportunity came about to take over the Hatcham Liberal Club building in New Cross. The team were thinking about ways to support more people in facing work, here in the UK and thought having a physical space would be a great launchpad for training activities and events. In January 2020, Hatcham House was launched. The last two years have been tough operating a workspace and events venue during a pandemic but with the way in which people work having been shaken up, we have grown in popularity at a rapid rate.

When we were presented the opportunity to take on a second venue in early 2022 we were so excited. We can't wait to be working more closely with The Really Local Group in a venue as vibrant as Peckham Levels, that has so much to offer the local community. The world of work is constantly changing and we want to help people to navigate that.

history of our building

The original Hatcham Liberal Club was a working man's club which at its height had over 1,000 local members.

Gradually with work-patterns changing and the challenge of looking after a Grade II listed building, membership fell and the original hall at the back of the building was sold off in 2007.

In 2016 the building was lovingly restored by a private developer and as part of this transformation a smaller hall was created for the members.

Good learning and good work is social and we have definitely felt this since launching in January 2020. That's why people are at the heart of everything we do. We don't just exist to support the residents and businesses in our local community, we exist to build a community within our spaces.

Exclusivity is not in our name or nature. We provide spaces that are accessible to all. We aim to keep our memberships affordable and

partner with local authorities and organisations to provide subsidised places to reach groups who face barriers to working.

Non-profit organisations do not have to compromise on quality. We strive for excellence in everything we do from the hospitality and interior in our workspaces to the service we deliver in our events. Bringing the quality of a corporate workspace with the joy of community belonging.
